Composition menu

New Composition - Add a new Composition to the Scene.

Composition Settings... - Adjust Composition related attributes including Resolution, Start/End Frame, FPS and Motion Blur. See Composition Settings.

Pre-Compose - Create a new Composition, add any selected Layers to it and place the new Composition within the active Composition. The new Composition will inherit its Resolution, Frame Range and Frame Rate from the active Composition.

Pre-Compose based on Selection Bounds - Create a new Composition, add any selected Layers to it and place the new Composition within the active Composition. The new Composition will inherit its Resolution from the bounding box of any selected Shapes and be positioned in the active Composition so that they remain in place.

Close Composition - Close the current Composition. Note - this requires more than one Composition to be open in the Scene Window.

Close Other Compositions - Close all other open Compositions except for the active one.

Set Composition to Playback Range - Set the Composition Start and End Frames to the Playback Range.

Set Playback Range to [Selection/Composition] - This menu item is dependent on selection:

  • Selection - Set the Playback Range to the earliest and latest frame of any selected layers.
  • Composition - If nothing is selected then set the Playback Range to the Composition's Start and End Frame.

Solo Selection in Viewport/Clear Viewport Soloing - This menu item is dependent on selection:

  • Solo Selection in Viewport - Add any selected Layers to the Quicklist and set the mode to Filter Viewport. See Tags.
  • Clear Viewport Soloing - With nothing selected this command will deselect the Quicklist to remove all Viewport filtering. See Tags.

Clear Quicklist - Remove all layers from the Quicklist.

Enable Time Remapping - With a Composition selected in the Scene Window, running this command will add a Time Remapping attribute with keyframes on the first and last frame of the Composition. The first keyframe is set to a value of 0% and the last to a value of 100%. These represent a percentage along the Compositions duration. These keyframes can then be edited to increase or decrease the original playback speed of the Composition. For example, repositioning the last keyframe to half way along the Composition's length (e.g. dragging it towards the first keyframe) will double its speed in playback.

Looping Compositions

When one Composition is placed within another Composition (also know as a Pre-Comp), Time Remapping can be used to loop its animation. To do this:

  1. Select the Composition to loop in the Scene Window.
  2. Go Composition > Enable Time Remapping.
  3. Select the Time Remapping animation curve (either select the attribute in the Scene Tree or select the keybar (the line connecting the keyframes) in the Time Editor or Graph Editor).
  4. Right click > Loop After > Looping.
  5. Extend the visibility clip of the Pre-Comp in the Time Editor as needed.

Toggle Background Alpha - Set the current Composition's Background Alpha to 0 or 255.
