Time Markers

Intro

Time Markers can be used to reference significant moments along the Timeline. They can also be connected to Keyframes and Visibility Clip Ends meaning it's possible to link them together.

UI

To add a Time Marker either:

  • Right click in the timeline and choose Add Time Marker or;
  • Position the playhead and use the hotkeys Cmd/Ctrl + * or Shift + Cmd/Ctrl + 8.

To select a Time Marker click one or hold Option/Alt to marquee select several Time Markers.

To move a Time Marker click and drag one.

To move multiple Time Markers, marquee select several Time Markers and then click and drag one of the selected Time Markers.

Double click a Time Marker to open its settings:

  • Label - Enter a description of the Time Marker. If a label is entered, it will appear depending on the Timeline Draw or Pre-Composition Draw settings (below).
  • Color - Select a color for the Time Marker.
  • Locked - When checked, moving the Time Marker is prevented.
  • Use Relative Placement - When checked, a Time Marker is positioned relative to the duration of the Composition.
  • Absolute Time - Set a frame number for the Time Marker.
  • Relative Time - Set a value between 0 and 1 where 0 = the start of the Composition and 1 = the end of the Composition.
  • Display Color Region - When checked, a region of the Time/Graph Editor is highlighted.
  • Color Region - Set the number of frames before and after Time Marker to show the color region.
  • Timeline Draw - Choose how a Time Marker's label will appear in the Timeline:
    • Show Label on Rollover - Only show a label when hovering the cursor over a Time Marker.
    • Always show Label - Show the label at all times.
  • Pre-Composition Draw - Choose how a Time Marker's label will appear when its parent Composition is used within another Composition:
    • Show Label on Rollover - Only show a label when hovering the cursor over a Time Marker.
    • Always show Label - Show the label at all times.

Connections

Connect a Time Marker to a Keyframe or the ends of a Clip by either:

  • Hovering over a Time Marker and using the Connection Anchor.
  • Double clicking a TIme Marker to open its settings and use the Connection Anchor at the top.

Once connected, moving a Time Marker will also move the Keyframe or Clip end.

Connect to multiple keyframes at the same time by selecting several keyframes and dragging a connection from a Time Marker to one of the selected keyframes.

To remove a connection - select a Clip (Layer) or Keyframe and then right click > Time Markers > Disconnect [option]

Delete a Time Marker by selecting one (or more) and hitting the delete key. Right click anywhere in the Timeline and select 'Delete All Markers' to clear the Timeline.

Absolute Time Markers will always snap to exact frames. Relative Time Markers will not.
